 Both Threads and Mastodon surfaced the news of Apple dropping X, and the Sam Altman news within minutes of it being live. X is no longer the prime place for breaking news, these other platforms have grown to be equal - or actually better at that. And that was X/Twitter's main feature. 16 comments
@trisweb @tchambers When I made the switch from Xitter during the big jump a year ago (!!) it was a bit on the lean side... but as some of my news/legal/expert goto's came over as 2023 progressed? Yeah, I have to endorse.  @tchambers I do not feel as though I miss much here. Followed as much news as I could and continue as they join. @tchambers Once I had started seeing "earthquake?" posts right after a shaker, I knew the Fediverse was ready.   yes but at least for me, that's a lot of bots that replicate accounts/feeds from other sites etc. and we can't converse with the officials, journalists and experts.  @tchambers "apple dropping X" ia menacingly ambiguous between a nuclear and a conventional meaning, the latter of which is correct here. The former would've made me laugh harder. @tchambers honestly, since I've joined the Fediverse, I've not had much of a problem with news. The main difference I have noticed is that we don't get as much rage baity stuff, and we don't have to wade through chest deep Nazism, white supremacy, trans hate, homophobia, misogyny, and general bigotry, just to get news  Even TikTok is better than Twitter James Bond Super Villains Listed by Intelligence Most to Least Auric Goldfinger @tchambers @ramsey Eh, not for me. I get my news from subscription newspapers. I miss my old network from back when Twitter was great. I’m now in three different places, and I don’t have the time to cultivate a new network, so I barely use any of them. There are a handful of people on each that I regularly engage with. That’s all. @tchambers I can't seem to get my feed "tuned" to breaking news. Anything in particular you do? That is the point of what X turned into. The fascists thought they could capture the eyeballs there and disseminate propaganda and misinformation. The real human eyeballs are still moving. The fake eyeballs (bots) are not. |

@tchambers Yep, I can reliably trust my mastodon feed to break news. It's basically equal to the old twitter at this point in that respect, and that's all I need. Really makes me happy.
