⚠️ WARNING ⚠️
We have discovered that under certain circumstances, a combination of two Apple bugs might leave your machine in a difficult-to-recover-from state after upgrading to macOS Sonoma with an Asahi Linux install, or if you install Asahi Linux after having upgraded to macOS Sonoma.
We're still investigating and will update with more information as we learn more.
The worst combination of problems seems to only affect 14" and 16" machines. However, Sonoma upgrade bugs can leave any Mac in a state with damaged System Recovery, which is undesirable. For this reason, we do not recommend upgrading to Sonoma right now.
This issue is not caused by bugs in Asahi Linux nor any of our tooling, and it is entirely outside our control. Nonetheless, we will update our installer to detect broken Sonoma installs and refuse to make any changes in that case, although this won't help people who upgrade to Sonoma after.
@AsahiLinux glad I haven’t upgraded yet to Sonoma.
