Nick @ The Linux Experiment

After using @kde for a bit, I found out about a few handy tips, tricks, apps and widgets to fix some small issues and improve my productivity.

So, I might as well share them with you:

@thelinuxEXP@mastodon.social @kde@floss.social Thanks for this, some of these will be very useful for me. I especially like the places shortcut and KDE Connect.

@thelinuxEXP @kde i have a feeling that this video will perform pretty good :unarist:

@Aergon @kde Not for now 😅 It’s dead last out of my last 10, unfortunately!

Jeroen Postma

@thelinuxEXP Cool, thanks! Learned some new stuff. Managed to fix the taskbar icon of Calibre and now I don't have to fiddle around the edges of a window in order to resize them!

@thelinuxEXP Mmm this makes me fall in love with KDE all over again. Even though I never stopped. Best and most useful DE ever with all the advanced tools and settings. Mm-mm-mm.

@thelinuxEXP @kde idk if you notice this but when you switch between dark and light mode for some reason firefox goes gtk instead of following the qt theme :c

@racsu @kde Ah yeah, these « not using the system’s toolkit Â» apps always behave weirdly. It’s probably because the widget changes the theme, and Firefox doesn’t like it :/

@thelinuxEXP @kde I love KDE, but not so much YouTube. I refuse to watch videos on most platforms but specially there. If you have a document and can share a link I would definitely like to read about it!

@thelinuxEXP @kde Awesome video Nick. Would love to see even more dedicated KDE content on your channel 😄

@thelinuxEXP @kde aw, nice trick on Dolphin, almost as handy as Haiku (right drag would propose the format list in the context menu)!

btw, seems a ctrl-shift drag of something from Firefox to Dolphin makes a .desktop link to the URL.

@thelinuxEXP @kde one thing I use in KDE, although it's less advanced than the GNOME version, is kargos:
github.com/lipido/kargos

It's a KDE implementation of Argos:
github.com/p-e-w/argos/

which is a GNOME remake of BitBar (now xbar), a widget system for macOS, which can use any scripting language that can output text (bash, python, perl…):
xbarapp.com/

Many of the original plugins should also run on Linux:
github.com/matryer/xbar-plugin

My own scripts:
github.com/mmuman/my-argos-scr

@thelinuxEXP @kde kargos would really need a maintainer though…

@thelinuxEXP @kde another trick: Alt-Shift-F12 toggles the compositing, which is handy when, say VLC makes KWin hog the CPU due to transparent windows…
