A comparison I'd add is predictive text on clamshell mobile phones ("feature phones").
In the 1990s the input had the character appear what felt immediately, and T9 worked rather well.
The hardware on a Nokia 2720 flip is orders of magnitude greater in spec, but has an input delay that's bordering on unusable (feels like it could be half a second sometimes)...
...because of "a web based operating system" named KaiOS.
