@tveskov jeg har et lige nu! @tveskov Same shit, but I have to take decision about couple short domains (one-three- letters) and that is not just $12 ๐ฃ @tveskov I got a nice offer for one of mine and took it... 20 years after I first registered it. As investments go, it worked out nicely. As dreams go, not so much. And then there's the domain I registered 25 years ago that I can never let go, because I have like 80 different e-mail addresses there that I have used for website logins. @tveskov I still pay 4 "useless" domains from archived projects :ablobsigh: What I hate is when the hosting site REMOVEDS your DO NOT RENEW selection and a few years later, get a (as one example) a $60 CC charge. This time I was sent a warning that my 3 UNUSED domains will new to be renewed in a few weeks. I went to my dashboard on the site and DAMN, the AUTO RENEW choice was on YES. I changed it, but...I need to recheck it a few days before the deadline. @tveskov do not worry elon, you may eventually find use for that x.com of yours @tveskov Oof. That reminds me, where is everybody moving now that Google sold off it's domains service? @tveskov This is how Umbrellix morphed from a vaporware OS into... whatever it is now. ^L @tveskov Just did this today, though not because I still want to do the thing the domain was for, but I didnโt want some schmuck taking it. I let it run to the โIt will expire in seven daysโ point though. @tveskov@mastodon.social @benolot@comfy.social hey i kept renewing it and now i run a social network node @tveskov Some have pushed the button on the right several times before taking their by then more substantial loss and pushing left. No names mentioned here. ๐ฌ A mere 15? Iโm looking at 20 to 28 years for a bunch of domains with projects not launched. . . yet (Luckily a couple years ago somebody paid over six figures for a domain I bought in 1989, pre-web, back when it took months to plead to NSFnet for a dot com domain.) @brianstorms @tveskov coming to think about it, my first registration was from 1998, so effectively 25 years ๐ The 25-year domain club: where every member quietly has at least once if not more often felt like a chump, paying so much money over so many years to hold on to one or more intangible digital assets not much different, perhaps, than NFTs ๐ฑ @darkcisum @tveskov ...and now you've put me in this picture too... Still don't like it! ๐ @tveskov image description (you may be able to update your post to make it more accessible): sweating and choosing between two buttons meme, where the options are โadmit to yourself your dream is deadโ or โpay $12โ @Sammael99 OK, c'est un dรฉfi ! @tveskov Wow, there's the gut punch I needed this morning. ;) Just kidding. I'm glad I'm not the only one! @tveskov @khalidabuhakmeh the older I get, the more I press the left button without sweating ๐ @tveskov I'd love to boost this, but I don't boost things that lack alt text because I have some followers who use screen readers... Could I convince You to edit some in? @tveskov bahaha I'm just now putting my domain to use that I've owned my entire adult life ๐คฃ @tveskov I love this, AND I have no idea how URL speculators/collectors handle this problem, especially now that the amount of TLDs has exploded. @tveskov just test it on a subdomain of your main and then migrate once it (btw never) gets out of alpha @tveskov for me that was when I let 1-800-HEROES.com go. It was going to be a superhero management game, very much drawing on the vibe of Rockstar Ate My Hamster. Renewed it for years, finally realized I was never going to make significant progress. Someone did eventually do something vaguely similar, I think Doublefine put it out on mobile? I feel validated when that happens :) @tveskov I want to share because I'm in this picture, but could you please add an alt text before? Something like : > picture of two buttons. On the first one is written "admit to yourself your dream is dead". On the second one "pay $12". |
@tveskov many of my dreams died a long time ago
