i appreciate whoever writes the @signalapp release notes

What's New
October 24, 2023 · 6.36.0We updated the user interface to better indicate when a group video call is reconnecting. Now you'll see blurred thumbnails instead of what used to look like an elaborate prank where everyone pretended to freeze at the same time.The system tray icon will no longer appear pixelated on Ubuntu Linux, unless you've managed to get Ubuntu Linux running on an old smart refrigerator with a low-res screen.

@badnoodleboard @molly0xfff @signalapp I always low key want them to explain what exactly they did like a youtube devlog would

@molly0xfff @signalapp

How do they know about the super-secret Coolbuntu projects?!?!?! ;)

Raj Naghee Reddy

@molly0xfff @signalapp I once convinced my manager and all her directs to play that exact elaborate prank. We were all in one conf room, being called from a different conf room … by the guy in charge of the videoconference system.

@molly0xfff @Gargron @signalapp That’s wonderful! I wish everyone would report their release notes like this.

@molly0xfff @signalapp Gee, now I kind of do want to try running Ubuntu on an old smart fridge!

@molly0xfff @signalapp im still angry about dropping sms support, but thats amazing

@molly0xfff @signalapp okay, I'm an #XMPP user, but if anything convinces me to give Signal a try, it'll be this! 👏👏
Badri
@molly0xfff @signalapp uh oh, now not only will we all have to turn on background blur at the same time, we'll also have to somehow tweak our appearances so that Signal mistakes us for part of the background! 😑

@molly0xfff @Gargron @signalapp Indeed, it always has a little humor in there, love it. Wonder who it is that writes them… 👌🏼

Most other apps’ release notes are so horribly boring… 😐

@Kdude @molly0xfff @gargron @signalapp humor aside, it's information that others don't bother including, saving from the frustration of "what unwanted features did I get today and will I find out at the most unwelcomed time"

@I @molly0xfff @Gargron @signalapp Agree. That’s why i decided to disable AppStore updates. I just do updates manually once in a while.
Extra bonus: a lot less problems (bugs), because other users will stumble upon bugs first, and the developer will then pull the update and fix it…

@molly0xfff @signalapp Wait - no "beige toster" ? Isn't a complete fridge total overkill ?

DerZuckerWaldi

@molly0xfff @signalapp at least in play store and/or in german the patch notes are way more boring, just announcing features ☹️

controlfreak

@molly0xfff and now I can't unsee Doom running inside Signal, on ubu on a fridge

Oli

@molly0xfff @signalapp I managed to get Signal running on Ubuntu on an actually decent screen 😃 #ubuntuftw

@olla33

Been running Signal on Xubuntu for a couple of years now without experiencing any of those problems. But good to hear they've solved then.

And yes, I love reading release notes like that. 😁

DELETED

@molly0xfff @signalapp More release notes should be written in this fashion, that way more people would read them! 😆

@molly0xfff @signalapp Got in trouble at my old job for writing amusing release notes

@molly0xfff @signalapp

Maybe users will actually read the release notes if they are enjoyable to read? 🙂🤷‍♂️

Marek

@molly0xfff @signalapp Clearly better than other projects. I remember when I asked for a changelog in a FLOSS project, I got the answer: "I don't write a changelog especially for you".

@molly0xfff I also like Slack's release notes, but I don't think they're as fun as they used to be. Also honorable mention to Discord, but I think they often overdo it.

@molly0xfff @signalapp had this great message on July 19, 2023 for its 6.26.0 update:
> Diacritics (such as accent marks) are now supported in @ mentions, so you can remind Aristotélēs to answer your philosophy question in the "Ancient Greek Time Travellers" group chat.
