 I save a print-ready PDF from Affinity Designer. Doing so, it adds 0.01mm to the right and bottom bounds. There is no fix. I submit the PDF to my printing service. Their web app won’t accept it because there’s 0.01mm too much white in each direction. I contact them. They say there is no human in the loop to work around this. 10 comments
I have to download an app to download an Adobe Illustrator trial. I need my credit card to do this. It will be auto-charged in 7 days. I want to listen to music to calm down. I put in my Bluetooth earbuds and connect to my laptop. My partner texts me, I look at my phone. The earbuds auto-connect to my phone. The music on my laptop stops playing. I haven’t worked with Illustrator in years. I want to open it but can’t find it in /Applications. I can’t find it in Spotlight. I have to open the Creative Cloud application and run it from there. Illustrator is excruciatingly slow on my M2 MacBook Air with 24GB of RAM and 8 cores. Contextual UIs pop up everywhere. None of them provide the tools I need at the moment. I give up for today. I want to check out Hamish MacDonald’s memex tool. I click on one of the screenshot thumbs on its GitHub page. It won’t let me zoom in. macOS’s system-wide ML/OCR thingy kicks in and selects the text inside the thumbnail instead. I click and click again but there’s simply too much text in the thumbnail. I get the kids. I leave for the garden. It’s the next day now. My partner wants me to share some pictures of a festival we attended. He doesn’t have a Mac so I can’t use AirDrop. I open Photos on my MacBook. I drag the pictures out of my album into a folder on my desktop. The process takes forever. It needs to convert all the pictures into JPEGs first for some reason. Two pictures fail to export. It gives me two hash IDs but no thumbnails. I have no idea which of them are missing now. I want to share the pictures on Dropbox. I right-click the folder and select the appropriate action. Nothing happens. I’m confused. I open the Dropbox app. All of a sudden the Share dialog appears. It’s a weird hodge-podge of non-native controls. It’s slow too. I put in my partner’s email address and click Send. The dialog disappears. Is it shared now? I don’t know. You know what? I don’t want to know. The software collapse can’t come soon enough. |

I need to fix this. All the apps I’m trying mess up the layer structure the printer needs. I get it submitted eventually. The printer now says their requirements changed. They need it as Adobe Illustrator file. This sounds like a bad joke. It isn’t one.
