@qurlyjoe I feel like that's just anyone that has a conservative news diet. My dad says things like my generation doesn't want to work and he's just a manager. And for the record, I'm a zoomer, so he's mainly talking about teens and young adults not wanting minimum wage non-union jobs at Burger King while rent is $1500/mo. @qurlyjoe The first time I ever saw that, it was a sign on a drive-though, and I honestly thought the workers put it up and I was proud of them. Then I found out and I was like, what's wrong with everyone nobody *wants* to work at McDonalds 🤦♀️ @LaurenZannah @qurlyjoe Exactly! The first time I saw that saying it was a Dairy Queen owner in 2021 in a local news paper about why he cut back open hours. I mentioned in the comments that many people in my state had lost their children's caregivers, grandparents and parents who watched the kids while mom was at work. A different DQ owner responded and said they knew about that. But they never did anything. like on site day care or day care as part of compensation. @qurlyjoe "Au contraire! I want to work just as much as you want to pay me!" "But I don't want to pay you." "Well then, now who's the lazy one?" @creachadair @qurlyjoe OK, will help our company by taking up more responsibilities (because the other guy left). How does this affect my paycheck? It won't? Find someone else. I'll keep doing my current job... @iceqbe @creachadair @qurlyjoe I foolishly accepted a promotion after my boss was at least honest saying "don't take it for the money" @qurlyjoe (research compilation and image from Paul Fairie researcher and professor at the University of Calgary) @Amimoregore @qurlyjoe like their are laments about "kids these days" going back to ancient Greece @jack_of_sandwich @qurlyjoe If you're referring to the quote allegedly attributed to Socrates about children being tyrants, it's been debunked and was written in a dissertation in the early 1900s as a summary @Amimoregore @qurlyjoe the news has always been to shape public opinion to line up with the ruling class. It wasn't just Norman and Chomsky who noticed it. Making the Media is also a good book on the topic. The cost involved in print, and later radio and such mean that the means of news production are owned by bourgeoisie and must reflect their values. Even more so today, look at who owns WAPO and the other papers. This doesn't even get into propaganda by the CIA. @qurlyjoe You have booked the plan 'Work flat 40'. The amount of work included in your plan is 80% used up. Not 100% true. Who the fuck actually wants to work? Do you really want to go to work for a shitty company everyday? @qurlyjoe if the person who says "nobody wants to work" appends it with "for me" it makes perfect sense. |
@qurlyjoe "why should I raise wages and benefits?" is just "why should I lose weight?" but for employers.
