Even after all these years, I can't get over this shit and I just need to get it out of my system.

Epilogues suck. And they ruin everything Homestuck stood for.

"You may freely ignore the epilogues", says Andrew Hussie.

Yeah. But then it's kinda hard to ignore the fact that the story just isn't properly fucking concluded. It's incomplete, in a way that's disastrous for "a story which is also a puzzle". It doesn't come together.

"Canon is a meaningless term, you may invent your own epilo-" no! Don't you fucking dare to shift your god-damn responsibility on me, the reader. The angsty edgy completely-out-of-character trauma porn fanfiction of epilogues are out, in fucking official print, no less. And it, by necessity, shaped the perception of the whole story around it. You CHOSE to ruin the story and dial back all the character development they ever had. All just because you had a massive chip on your shoulder and an axe to grind with the fandom.

Yeah, I know you were depressed and tired, and grew to hate the story and the characters. But at that point, you just had ONE JOB, and then you'd never have had to touch it ever again.

You could just show Caliborn/Lord English getting killed or locked up somewhere forever or otherwise defeated just like the Condesce and Bec Noir. And that's it. Done. You can leave it for good, part with it forever, and move on with your life. Let it go.

You chose to antagonize the readers for no good reason and release the epilogues that don't work as a conclusion and a lacklustre attempt at the sequel that doesn't work as the continuation instead. Nice trainwreck at the end of the line and at zero speed, bro. How the hell did you even manage that.

Homestuck Vol 10 album felt like the conclusion and the farewell. Collide/Act 7/Credits, despite their undeniable epicness, didn't.

Fuck you, Andrew Hussie.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. But also fuck you.

Oh, and in before "you're just bitching about epilogues because they don't meet your expectations"

Yeah. I know. Homestuck has always been about flirting with the reader and subverting reader's expectations.

However, much like in romantic relationships, where there's difference between flirting and... uh... <a content warning tag you can guess>, there's difference between playfully subverting expectations and outright betraying them.

Both ostensibly have similar purposes. But one of them promises the receiving party a good time, and the other one leaves them with a lifelong trauma and a bad taste in their mouth. There are right and wrong ways you can go about the goals you set.

And I would say, if a big part of your fandom feels unwelcome for even having any expectations about your work, ever - you chose wrong.

@drq@mastodon.ml for me it seems like the only two moments that were not shown in the comic were LE getting kicked into the black hole (act 7) and john actually talking to everyone to zap to caliborn's place (end of credits). These two plotholes seem to be quite small and almost deducible from the surrounding narrative.

but epilogues feel like the guy who needs to hammer two nails into a wall to hang a family photo that would cover a darkish spot there, so he brings a sledgehammer and proceeds to demolish the entire house.
