@0xSim @mdiluz Never know unless you try! In either case, something with the love put in it like Terraria, would bring far more to the community by simply being itself and open too. This of course is wonderful to see from them, and hope that someday they take to making at very least the code and engine of their projects free and open. @mdiluz Slightly off-topic, but what is it with walls of text shared as images these days? Did people get stupider and forget that web can do text content as well? Not only is it inconvenient and inefficient to read, it also further disadvantages people with disabilities, making it harder to use their screen readers. Fuck this "everything is a screenshot" trend, man. As far as I see, these #trends are used to convey large #paragraphs into a single #tweet / #toot to avoid multiple #threads. But as u said, for #screen #readers it's challenging. #Alt texts are must if they are following this trend. It's an untold #rule which still a lot of people yet to follow. @techgeeklife @mdiluz This is what I dislike about the #fediverse protocol. There are all these different applications, like Mastodon for short stuff, #Writefreely for longer text, #Pixelfed, #Lemmy, etc. etc. But if you want to use them, you need a different account for each, which harms discoverability. Contrast this with #Matrix, where you can have multiple applications use a single account, each in its own matrix room(s), using custom event types, and tailored client apps to access each. @techgeeklife @mdiluz Let's say that as (at)ticho(at)mastodon.online, I want to post something longer, so I'd like to use Writefreely. I need to have an account on some Writefreely instance, I can't do it with my Mastodon account. Yes, I could boost my Writefreely post with my Mastodon account, but that is an ugly kludge that harms discoverability, and shatters community (those interested now have two accounts to follow). So people make these "twitter threads" instead, which is amazingly ugly. @techgeeklife @mdiluz Same with Pixelfed, which should be used to share photos, or even whole photo albums or "stories", to use Instagram lingo. Instead, most people don't bother, and just attach photos to their Mastodon posts. And whenever I do a post with several photos, I feel guilty because I'm misusing the service, and adding to their hosting costs. At least whoever is hosting a Pixelfed instance is doing so already expecting having to host a lot of images and budgeting accordingly. @ticho @techgeeklife yeah tbf I forgot the alt-text here and really should have added it, that's my bad. Though now it'll notify some 400 people if I edit it. Good ol' federation. @mdiluz |
