@gamingonlinux That's not a real apology, it's a corpo nonpology. They do not apologize for their actions but for a strawman ("confusion and angst" others supposedly had), the people actually were ANGRY.

Please don't help them with their shitty framing. It's obvious they do not act in anyone's interest but their own.

David

@gamingonlinux “we apologise for the confusion” - i.e. it’s your fault for not understanding us…

Jay :verified_paw:

@gamingonlinux

We're sorry you're angry but you're just confused! See the runtime fee isn't actually bad, you just read the announcement wrong. We're going to rewrite the announcement to gaslight you into thinking the runtime fee is good for you! /s

@gamingonlinux their CEO is a guy that was even too greedy for EA. Let that sink in. He's focused on monetization so much, nothing good can come out of that.

DELETED

@gamingonlinux "we are so so soorrry, like really really sorryyyy. You were confused. But we listen! We gonna lower fees from 0.25 to 0.2! "

@gamingonlinux So, instead of doing it all at once, they're going to do it several times...

Untitled Game Studios

@gamingonlinux I couldn't agree more with the sentiment in the article. The trust between Unity and developers has been shattered. As indie developers, we invest significant time and effort into our projects. It's disheartening to work with an engine when we can't be sure if its rules will remain stable, potentially leading to major financial challenges down the road. 🎮💔 #UnityRuntimeFee #GameDev

@gamingonlinux

As long as we cannot keep to the TOS we agreed, nothing is enough.

@gamingonlinux hah, funny, NOW they are regretting, pff, yeah, this reminds me that humans don't realize things until it's too late, long life Godot.

@gamingonlinux They apologised for how their customers are feeling about it. Which is a typical PR-dickmove. Other than that they are stalling for time.

Eric

@gamingonlinux I don't see how this will change anything for Unity. It might save face to shareholders, but for the people already using the engine, or considering it for their next project, there is no way to trust them now.

James Ryland Miller

@gamingonlinux But they didn’t really apologize… More like “sorry you misunderstood”

Mighty Murder Mittens

@gamingonlinux Too little too late. The damage is done. Anyone who gives them another chance from here on out is in an abusive relationship. EA style tactics violating trust. It happened once, it will happen again. Do not trust them. Take your business elsewhere. Let Unity rot.

@gamingonlinux The only acceptable apology should be getting a new CEO. I wish more gamesev companies were calling for it.

Jon Jennings

@gamingonlinux
"we apologize for the confusion" === "I'm sorry you're upset"
Not an apology or a retraction.

As you said, the real damage is the loss of trust and is permanent already. Only way I see for them to fix that is some sort of Developers Council integrated into their decision making - which seems extremely unlikely.
