⛔ Just out: The Oslo District Court has sided with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, upholding the daily fines against Meta for its use of surveillance-based advertising.
This is an important victory for consumer privacy.
⚖ Although Meta is likely to appeal the decision, this sends a strong signal that it is not acceptable to subject consumers to commercial surveillance in order to target ads.
📢 Big shout out to the brave Datatilsynet & and its extremely competent and hardworking staff, such as director Line Coll, its legal chief Jørgen Skorstad and its international head Tobias Judin.
👏 They are punching above their weight and other enforcement agencies around the world should take note, while companies using commercial surveillance to show ads should seriously reconsider.
