Feels like adaptions can never win.

It’s not a 1:1 copy - “they changed this raaaaa!”

It pretty much is - “it’s too similar raaaa!”

@gamingonlinux it's almost like the problem is with veteran fans who want to make sure people know they exist

@gamingonlinux GoT was winning for at least the three first seasons. It wasnt 1:1 but it was true to the source material. Then suddenly it seemed like the producers or the writers thought they could make the story better than the original or something. They could not.

@gamingonlinux I've never seen any One Piece media, but I still question the wisdom of adapting animation into live action. That said, if the biggest complaint is "there's too much of the original in it", then it's a sign the medium transfer didn't botch the heart of the series.

@gamingonlinux I’m thinking that’s about the only thing they could find to complain about. It’s an awesome adaptation!

@gamingonlinux I’ve never heard of one piece until the Netflix show. Loved every second.

@gamingonlinux its definetly really flawed and I agree with the ign article. if they wanted to recreate everything they need to commit to it and go on forever (which is impossible). they need to make more changes to the story to make the way the relationships mature and grow actually natural.

@gamingonlinux not much of an anime fan, but I definitely struggled with the cowboy bebop (one of the few anime I really love) adaptation, something was just very off, but then that fits for a lot of Netflix produced shows and movies...

@gamingonlinux bro, it's a Netflix adaptation. Of course they can't win.

@gamingonlinux Their main complaint boils down to the fact that it's not as impactful as the original because it's an abridged version of it, but with the series being currently 1000 chapters long, it's simply impossible to "commit" to bringing everything to the live action.

It's a fair review but their negative point about it choosing a middle ground is actually a strong point for me, you just can't have everything and rewriting the entire thing is simply also impossible.
