Gregory's Server@monoxane The fact that multicast does not work at all on wireless makes it a massive problem. Many wireless adapters will send every multicast/broadcast frame three times, at the lowest basic rate (either 1 Mbit/sec or 6 Mbit/sec, depending on whether it's 2.4 or 5/6 GHz), because multicast/broadcast frames cannot be acked and therefore rate control cannot work on them and neither can retransmits.
This makes trying to do uncompressed audio over multicast impossible if wireless is present.
@coregaze Oh yes you are absolutely correct there, multicast over wireless is definitely a very bad idea and no one should ever do it. But in general it has its place.
