Being offended or angry at the Latin prefix "cis" is like being offended by the Latin prefix "pre", "semi", "tri" or "uni".
It ridiculous.

@WrenArcher From elsewhere on the internet... Drawing of a person holding up a sign: «Cis people think "cis" is a slur because they use the word "trans" as a slur» https://masto.ai/@iuculano/110582868760412143 If a cis-gendered person politely asked you to stop calling them "cis-gendered", would you respect their request? The person responds, "It's fine to just call me a man or male. The cis- is not necessary and I find it insulting. Thank you for you respecting my personal choice in self-identification." Would you respect their request? @WrenArcher that argument doesn't really make much sense. Imagine being called a Semi-Person. That sounds like either a slur for people with dwarfism or a slightly more polite way of saying subhuman. @Schw4rztee @WrenArcher Cis doesn't mean semi. It has no negative connotation. It's just a word to describe a category of people, like we have for every category of people. Or saying "tall people" is also saying this category is subhuman ? @daisymoon I'm not actually questioning the conclusion. I'm questioning the argumentation. @WrenArcher explicitly listed "semi" as a comparable prefix. @WrenArcher I would argue the reason some people are offended is because it’s disruptive to their identities. It’s in the way the word is used. They’ve been a "man" or "woman" for all their live, now suddenly they’re supposed to something else, according to this loud internet minority? A "cis person"? Maybe even "just" a cis person? "What’s that even supposed to mean? I’m a woman!" I think we should accept that some people just think like that, and not immediately ascribe a trans-hate to them. @WrenArcher Words acquire meaning through usage. For "cis" to acquire an unambiguously neutral meaning, it just needs to be found in many contexts where criticism is not being leveled at cis people for something (for example for thinking that "cis" is a slur). @WrenArcher always predictable how telling cis people that cis is not a slur brings out the dickheads. it's almost like you're right 🤔 @WrenArcher Never thought of it like that. I think in general people hate labels on themselves but feel the need to label others. Thank you. |
