@spencer @xkcdbot xkcd always has interesting alt-text, which is best enjoyed after seeing the comic.

Hiding it in a CW is one way to handle it. You could do it as the actual alt text to the image, but then blind folks miss out on a description.

@raineer @xkcdbot ok that makes sense, thanks! The only issue is that in the mastodon apps I use, it looks like the entire post is under a CW, not just the image, so the xkcd alt-text is hidden/revealed at the same time as the image, so it doesn’t really help. Though I guess it hides it from notifications…

Option A: a solar panel 1 meter square on a house's roof labeled south facing. Math underneath: $0.20 per kWh times 4 kWh per meter square per day times 1 meter square times 20% equals $58 per year

Option B: the same solar panel on the surface of the sun labeled downward. Math underneath: $0.20 per kWh times sun luminosity divided by the sun area times 1 meter square times 20% equals $22 million per year
