The reason why #rent hasn't skyrocketed in my hometown compared to the average is because instead of "just #privatizing" by selling off public-owned assets like city-built #housing for cheap to #HedgeFunds and #BigRealEstate corporations, the city spun off said holdings into a #cooperative that has non-profit status, at least reducing any gentrification against seniors and low-income households.

@housepanther @DamienMarieAtHope But then again my city also chooses to house refugees among the regular people and not just shove them into some containers at the edge of town with no access to anything for years, rightfully assuming that people seeking shelter want to find themselves a new home and integrate themselves locally.
Also it's harder for racists to convince people into hating refugees if they're on the first-name basis with one next door...
