@tthbaltazar idunno, is it? :p

( reposting because i accidentally made it private )

a usb cable from the previous post, plugged into a powerbank placed on my lap
termux app on android with multiple failed attempts to guess the adb stop server command, then a "sleep 20; adb devices"

@Sqaaakoi @ptrc It is real. There are devices being deployed in particular in airports that try to utilize USB data access to gather information from devices that allow too much (and people habitually just hitting "yes" on everything) disguised as plain charging devices.

@ptrc Tfw you update the train, and the seats still don't recline

aismallard (relocated!)

@ptrc USB condoms are useful for this reason

@aismallard @ptrc

Yes, you need to protect your phone from USBAIDS.

@ptrc sure hope you actually have USB debugging disabled in yer phone's developer options

Patrycja

@spootproot i mean, i make android shitposts and do app reverse engineering, i usually have those enabled..

@ptrc well just stay safe :blobfoxpat:

@spootproot @ptrc As long as you don't hit yes when it asks there it doesn't actually gain adb access to the device. What the person who set that up was counting on was people just habitually hitting yes on everything. Having debugging enabled at all isn't necessarily dangerous just on its own.

@ptrc@social.treehouse.systems actually hold up, in order to display that message, a phone needs to have enabled developer options & USB debugging option

@@ptrc that's a thing. also on airports there are these scammers USB hub terminals. they installed keyloggers via adb. i dont have a reference rn i read it a few months back.

@ptrc uh context? I assume this is a public plugging station thingy

Amy 🇹🇭

@ptrc it's was pretty good, am just a little dumb 💔️

Nazo

@ptrc I wonder how common these are. Well, I guess there is validity to the idea of special cables and adapters with the data pins disabled. Actually, maybe what we really need is a MITM device that can pass along QC and PD data but nothing else.

@ptrc @cstross “free” usb charging on public transport?

JRT [3502] :fairydust:

@ptrc these look exactly like the charge ports deployed in Berlin buses.
