@kissane Thanks for that!

As someone that's 'struggling' with Mastodon, I'd describe it as 'clunky'. It's more involved to find and add people, to reply to posts, to read threads. I like the different atmosphere, but part of what i joined twitter for (following news stories) just doesn't work here. Using Mastodon is just .. hard work!

I'll likely keep at it. But I'm waiting on a bsky invite code in the hope it's closer to what I'm looking for.

@RichardOfShoes @kissane I'd say this is not necessarily a fault of the platform, but rather that it just doesn't have the scale for all the breaking news to show up on trends immediately.

The *really* big stuff shows up on all the trend lists, but other things you won't see unless you're following the journalists, of which many just aren't here due to the scale of the platform.

IMO, just having more people would solve a lot of problems, but how do you get those people in the first place?

@RichardOfShoes @kissane I understand and appreciate why Fediverse users' lists are private and unshareable (anti-griefer measure) but I still find them personally useful, especially for newsbot accounts.

My method (others may do this differentIy) - I follow the bot account, then add to my newsbots list, and then I see breaking news in my home feed as well as being able to go to the list feed for a quick check on media daily zeitgeist.
