@Haste Thank you! I had to try three times—my first two instances blew up after I wandered off because it was so quiet.
Eugen is probably so sick of seeing my name come up at this point, but I tried to express my very real sympathy in this post.

Yeah, that's a bummer. I try to provide gentle, private feedback to the unsolicited-tip dogpiles. My hope is that if, culturally, we got to this point where providing alt-text is part of the Mastodon identity (which is rad af), we should be able to do the same thing for the new user welcome and not dogpile folks for perceived CW transgressions, etc. @Haste I still sometimes get folks aggressively approaching me for providing alt text when I forget (Ivory doesn't allow adding alt-text from the share widget on iOS), when instead of getting angry at me they could just reply with the alt text and then I'm like "oh shit, my bad" and add it. @thisismissem Yeah I've always been kind of confused about this; providing the alt text if you notice a post where it's missing does more to teach the poster about it *and* solve the problem. @Haste exactly! I ended up blocking someone because they yelled at me for forgetting to add it to a screenshot I quickly posted before bed, and if they'd just given alt text that I'd forgotten due to tooling making it hard, then I would've added it (but I have added it still, because I'm so so so exhausted after this week & I really don't care about that throw-away post that much to do extra steps rn @Gargron I really appreciate the work you do, and I have a little bit of insight into some of the pressure (and constant yelling and assumptions of bad faith) from my work elsewhere. I couldn't hack it for long, myself. Thanks for reading! @Gargron @kissane @Haste As an older, not very techie person, I find the tips overwheming and stay away from them. I have just been trying to find interesting people, but am unsure if I am even seeing who is in my own instance, let alone others. Thanks for trying to keep people happy and for doing this research. |

For what it's worth you did a good job in being solution-oriented rather than the 🔥 that this topic can sometimes inspire. So mission accomplished!
