@gamingonlinux I received The Messenger in some Humble Bundle years ago. I didn't touch it for a while and decided to just randomly play it one day. Between the incredible music by Rainbowdragoneyes, to the excellent level design, to the entire genre shift halfway through the game, its one of the best platformers I've ever played.

I strongly recommend people pick this one up. The movement is just...so good. The art is likewise fantastic.

Armanuki

@gamingonlinux Kerbal Space Program. Bought it in very early access after seeing it advertised on Steam. Did not know anything about it at the time.

Duppo Appo

@gamingonlinux Recently Idol Showdown blew me away. Being a free fighting game, made by fans for a thing I know next to nothing about, I had one heck of a time with it.

Biscuit

@gamingonlinux A little #Metroidvania called #CatMaze . The story was surprisingly fun. I can only remember one enemy mechanic that was weirdly difficult and to this day I don't think I was approaching it correctly.

Also, #Crackdown (the first one).

@gamingonlinux I was really surprised by A Plague Tale: Innocence. I'd had it for ages in my Steam library and never played it.

When I heard there was a sequel coming out I thought I'd give it a shot as it must have sold well to warrant a sequel and really enjoyed it.

Everything about it was good.

I ended up playing it on the PC and seeking out a rare physical PlayStation 5 version to play it there too.

Akiba

@gamingonlinux high on life - honestly thought the game stayed fresh throughout and the gameplay loop never got stale.

Von Xylofon

@gamingonlinux INSIDE. I was expecting another Limbo, another decent, but not really awe-inspiring platformer. Hoo boy, was I wrong about that.

Kimimaru

@gamingonlinux The original Chibi-Robo! on #gamecube. Great soundtrack, likable characters with some fairly mature topics despite its appearance, and overall very unique, interesting game.

Games in the series after the first one are not quite the same.

Rassilonian Legate

@gamingonlinux
Hollow knight, it got me to really love metrodvanias

The Slight Misgivings

@gamingonlinux River City Girls before I realised it's a decendant of Renegade that subverts the usual 'rescue the girlfriend' plot of beatemups, has a super cool soundtrack and deep gameplay. Plus, it's funny.

@gamingonlinux In 2018, I decided to take a huge gamble and bought a game that was 'Mostly Negative' on Steam. 10 minutes in, I knew I had just won the lottery, and No Man's Sky became my most-played game pretty quick. The updates that have since rehabilitated the game's reputation were all much-appreciated of course, but I was already in love with the game long before that.

@gamingonlinux I expected NFS Hot Pursuit Remastered to be worse than the original one, but it turned out to be one of my faves just like the original one.
