In the last 16 hours on Mastodon I've seen a person who is an expert in cave insects, someone else who posts about moss/slime molds, and a STEM educator who takes a planetarium around remote towns in the US.

To reference Rihanna, 'This is what I came for'.

Have you heard from any #fountainpen enthusuasts yet? I’m one of them.

Kristie

@Seth I have not. You are my first. We actually bought our 8 year old a fountain pen and ink to go along with the potion shop I created for her birthday. It's not high quality, but certainly a fun place to start.

A vintage looking selection of items including old books, a leather pouch glass bottles, a trunk and candles.

Hey! Good for you! Consider the Pilot Petite. It’s a great little fountain pen.

Kristie

@Seth How much do I love that I'm getting fountain pen recommendations for my kid? A LOT. Thank you!

@Seth @kristiedegaris I just saw @stephanieburgis posting about them like an hour ago so I think they're around!

@kristiedegaris

It's like this all the time here!

Except , when it's not, then you can unfollow, mute, mute boosts from a particular person, or, go to you settings and filter out anything you don't want to see.

Also, there re many respectful folk who put Content Warnings (CW) on posts that are common known issues that people find distressing.

The point being is that engaging with other people can be and is healthy and productive.

DoomScrolling is done, check out #BloomScrolling instead 😊

@kel OMG BLOOM SCROLLING? I've found my people 🀯😫❀️

@kristiedegaris@mastodon.scot When the Twitter migration first happened people on Twitter were like "But I cherish this wild randomness in my TL and Mastodon doesn't have that" and we on Mastodon/The Fediverse were like "YES WE DO ITS RIGHT HERE" but still they did not listen, those wilfully blind fools.

Kristie

@mrundkvist No! Um, how amazing is it that so many interesting people are just making themselves known to me...Thank you <3

@kristiedegaris

I am SO GLAD you are finding your peeps!! I keep trying to tell people about this place because it's truly amazing - you can casually wave at someone, or chat over a cup of tea, or get deeeeeeeep into whatever nerds you out.

Please DO ask if you have questions! Sometimes little things can be stumbling blocks, like the way you log in or whether you have an expanded dashboard view (four columns, not the default one).

But mostly - welcome! πŸ‘‹

Kristie

@Her_Doing This is such a lovey message, thank you! I am already feeling quite at home, and have experienced zero anxiety thus far which is a far cry from how I felt on the other platform.

Kristie

@Her_Doing Me too! Really, thank you so much for this generous enthusiasm, it is a lovely thing <3

Louanne Cooley

@kristiedegaris oh you might like @iangriffin who posts the most utterly gorgeous southern aurora photos too.

@kristiedegaris Hope your book comes to fruition. Would love to read it and send to a dear friend who has been building walls here in New England.

@kristiedegaris
Amazingly enough, you’ll even encounter some who are experts on literally any topic you want to discuss.
These are usually men.
Who graduated high school.

@kristiedegaris I've gotten some great ideas that spawned an entire hobby of learning to self-host my services and get them out of the cloud. It got me fired up about creating my own home computer lab.
