*loud sigh*

So now you canโ€™t even read a Twitter post unless you are logged in on a browser. What a ridiculous decision.

@gamingonlinux The "trick" worked on me, because I wanted to get status updates about the @fastmail outage and they're not updating here very often. For various reasons, I shouldn't have bothered, and I don't think I'll be doing that again. For the most part, I'm not really missing Twitter.

@gamingonlinux really? Well, that's the final nail I think.

@gamingonlinux You can use bird.makeup/ to feed Twitter account into Your Mastodon, or You can use nitter.net/ (or different instance). I use Nitter to get RSS from tweets. We'll see how long both solutions work giving Musk's chaotic changes in Twitter. ๐Ÿ˜‰

@gamingonlinux Huh. That may single-handedly kill the site. They're vastly underestimating how much of Twitter was searching important tweets or passing tweets between people.

It undercuts the entire "social" part of the social network, heh.

@gamingonlinux I got sick of this shit too.

Nitter is fantastic for getting around this. It even embeds in steam chat, unlike twitter lately. I have stuff auto redirect with the Privacy Redirect browser extension.

@gamingonlinux This makes Twitter (which I left) as useless to me as Facebook (which I never got on).

@gamingonlinux More evidence that people are fleeing Twitter I'm guessing.

@gamingonlinux With many public alert services on Twitter, imagine "please register to find out if the world is ending"

@gamingonlinux canโ€™t download games without downloading steam client. These companies will never care about you. The data you willingly sign up is the same has twitter earning millions of dollars. Reject Valve being the โ€œgood guyโ€ and twitter as a necessary part of internet. Both of these companies want money, not make you happy.

Urso

@gamingonlinux they really want to keep their tight grip on their user base it seems.
But I feel like this is somewhat scaring away people who are curious and passerbyโ€™s.

@gamingonlinux I wasn't keen on giving them any traffic anyway.

Gearlicious

@gamingonlinux Nitter (proxy) might still be an option but it's bound to get broken eventually (hope not too fast the way things are going).

Feneric

@gamingonlinux Not just individual tweets, but all of Twitter seems broken for me unless logged in, and there doesn't seem a way to log in because it's broken...

@gamingonlinux This is REALLY RI-DI-CU-LO-US!

ahahhahah #Elmo think that now I'll sign-up to read there various shit, ahahahahah bye bye ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Robert Barlow

@gamingonlinux As good an excuse as any to get out of the habit of using it, I suppose.
