The availability of a professionally made "free" project will stifle competing open source efforts. And then when the big company yanks their rug out from under the party nobody has any place left to stand.
We've seen this movie too many times to ignore it.

We keep doing what we are doing regardless, if they come along for the ride fine. If they rug pull later, we just keep going. No worse than before, and likely better for the attention.
