But IM hasn't gone away.

FB/Insta/WhatsApp, Twitter, Google Chat/Talk/Duo, iMessage, Discord...

The thing SMS has going for it is that people are actively paying for it with the subscription.

But it hasn't subsumed all the other forms of communication.
