And with that attitude you have projects like Gnome who have broken #accessibility for years now.

And their argument is "We are just volunteers."

Well here's the thing though I would rather have a community of sharing and mutual aid. Which is not divided to developers/users false dichotomies.

The mentality of "dump code" and who cares about other people is what got us into the mess we are today.

@msavoritias it’s a hell of a thing to think it’s a “mess” that there’s high-quality, free software that helps millions of people, just because those volunteers aren’t working on everything you care about. If you’re not willing to invest time and effort and money toward adding the capabilities you want, why do you feel entitled to demand others do so?

It’s a lot like getting a free car and being mad at the person who gave it to you because it doesn’t have snow tires

@msavoritias think of it this way: what stops you from contributing the features you care about? If your answer is “time, money, energy, etc that I need for other things”, then congrats—it’s the same reason the devs you’re complaining about haven’t done it. Every volunteer contributor has limited time and energy to work on things and has to choose what they’ll take on, based on what they know and what they can do

@calcifer

So #accessibility or listening to people using your program is optional akin to snow-tires now?

Also if by amazing you mean that I still have to use the terminal, security is an afterthought, accessibility mostly doesnt exist and UI/UX is still ways off (although it has started improving with kde a bit) then you seem to be in the exact bubble i was writing about.

@calcifer A counterpoint to "must support": When I built Dryads Wake, I looked for a library for websockets. I found one. It was not supported and didn’t work for me, but with a few hours of work, I could make it do what I needed.

That’s why Dryads Wake and Sun are on the web now:

- dryads-wake.1w6.org
- dryads-wake.1w6.org/sun

If devs were required to provide support, this websocket lib would not have been online and you could not play the game drafts online now.
