Being a trans person means suddenly having to be an expert on endocrinology, fetal development, genetics, psychology, anthropology, civil rights law, and now the history of genocide, just to explain, justify, and advocate for our existence and experiences.

@danirabbit All while running from possibly credible death threats.

@danirabbit well look at it this way we had a high enough bar even identifying what the problem was that we had. Which makes us pretty bright so we can do it

@danirabbit Marginalized groups have to have a phd level of knowledge just to fight for our existence while cis het white people can just make shit up to attack us. It’s one of the uglier sides of privilege.

@danirabbit I relate to almost all of that! I'm a trans ally. I had a nasty pituitary tumor and it really sent me sideways for a long while, until we got the hormones back in order. Yeesh. I feel for you!💞

@KarenStrickholm @danirabbit And we feel for you too. A pituitary tumor is not an easy thing to deal with. I hope they've been able to manage it. I don't know if they are easy to remove. At least in many cases they are benign. Sending healing hugs.

@danirabbit *deepest sympathy*

And what's worse... even after you become an expert, people don't listen.

@Chip_Unicorn @danirabbit Makes me wonder if I BSed an answer like the opposing conspiracy theorists do, if anything would even change

Dani

@Chip_Unicorn @danirabbit extra fun when it's endocrinologists who are wrong about basic facts when the right answers are easily found.

@danirabbit Trans people are becoming the polymaths who teach the world how to be human beings.

@danirabbit Every trans person should have an honorary Ph.D.

@danirabbit as a biologist I always say: first of all, fuck what biology says, trans rights are human rights. It doesn’t matter what biology says because it’s not a matter of Science.

But no, genetics does not say those bigot things anti-LGBTQIA+ people claim.

@punkbiology Cheers! I think it’s worth clarifying too that I sometimes have to know more than my primary care physician to get adequate care. When I first got my progesterone prescription she had no idea how to talk to me about it because the on-label use is as a vaginal suppository. Every step along the way I’ve had to be able to speak up and advocate for myself and know and read WPATH and ask for things that aren’t documented etc

@danirabbit@mastodon.online
Bigots: "two genders is simple biology!!!"
"Biology Basics" in university: "so there's like a dozen aspects that make up gender and it's not really clear cut..."

mia

@danirabbit@mastodon.online also, to be reminded time and time again that someone who won’t even see you as a person isn’t going to listen to you either
