@XOrgFoundation Xorg for highly customized environments, Wayland for something supposed to be more secure.

๐Ÿคท for my relatives' computers because it just has to work, so let the distro decide.

(No hard feelings however you vote - X11, Wayland, and shrugging are all supported by the X.Org Foundation ๐Ÿ˜‹)

Haelwenn /ัะปะฒัะฝ/ :triskell:
@XOrgFoundation How does one installs/implements shrugging though? Do you have a specification? ^^

@lanodan

In the algorithm, MUST and MAY are to be interpreted according to RFC 2119.

1. MUST put oneself in an upright position, like sitting or standing.
2. MUST put both elbows down. MUST NOT move the elbows outside their rest positions.
3. MUST raise both hands up away from the body, remaining approximately planar with the chest.
4. MAY tilt hands away from body, as above.
5. MAY tilt head (as above), like a confused puppy
6. MAY raise both shoulders. MUST NOT raise exactly one shoulder.

@XOrgFoundation I love the "any vote is fine" take, but after all the notifications I've been flooded with today on this topic, I feel this poll could use a good deal more nuance ๐Ÿ˜…

johnfocker :archlinux: :anar:

@XOrgFoundation @jamey since xorg has long been dead and wayland DEs apparently need another decade to be finished, I vote zellij ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Bjornsdottirs

@XOrgFoundation I'm pretty sure the X11 product of the XOF is kinda done for, though?

Gen X-Wing

@XOrgFoundation X10 is where itโ€™s at. Or display postscript. With some NeWS thrown in.

Mattias Bengtsson

@XOrgFoundation shrug.org โ€” the community fork of Mehโ„ข

Yuki ่†ค :heart_trans:โ€‹

@XOrgFoundation going with whatever works on my setup, usually it includes something obscure enough my favourite Wayland compositor refuses to work on it and I have to whip out X11 with a cursed config but you know it works

Cyril Brulebois

@XOrgFoundation The answer is obviously: โ€œwhatever people actually doing the work are going to be working on!โ€

Speaking as a former X maintainer in Debian, and as someone who integrated it in the graphical installer, replacing DirectFBโ€ฆ Feeling a little sad to see that old friend go, not sure about the timeline in distributions, or about what (re)work will be needed in #DebianInstaller to keep a graphical version. But I'm sure we'll manage!

Full support! ๐Ÿ’ฏ

MithicSpirit

@XOrgFoundation Still on Xorg but mainly due to lack of hackable tiling wms on wayland. Any recommendations (other than qtile and dwl)?

oli :spinny_cat_genderfluid:โ€‹ :spinny_fox_genderfluid:โ€‹

@mithicspirit
What does hackable mean in this context? easily editable source code? rich configuration syntax?

Jรฉrรฉmie Zimmermann ๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿง€

@mithicspirit @XOrgFoundation sway! drop-in replacement for i3! recently moved my 10yo i3 config file to a .config/sway, changed one word in my .profile, et voila! switched to wayland! wow. such tiled. much amaze!

Nate :verified:

@XOrgFoundation I used XFCE for years, then realized one day I was using it almost like a tiling WM anyway. Switched to Sway and haven't missed anything.

Ian McLean

@XOrgFoundation Nvidia drivers preclude me from having a very good time in Wayland

DELETED

@XOrgFoundation does it count if i use X only because OpenBSD has no Wayland? ๐Ÿ˜”

Mahmoud - ู…ุญู…ูˆุฏ

@XOrgFoundation I'm not going Wayland for another 5 years when all programs and DEs have had all their toolings perfectly working in Wayland. There's no need for me to waste my time before.

Klampfradler ๐ŸŽธ๐Ÿšด

@brawaru @XOrgFoundation No.

NVIDIA is not supporting wayland. They invented their own protocol.

Wayland is doing its best to support it as I see it.

James Ots

@XOrgFoundation Is the question "Which would I prefer to use?" Or "Which works?"

reidlab

@XOrgFoundation wayland if it works, xorg when it doesn't

Sir RaptaG :verified:

@XOrgFoundation Even though I have some issues on my end, I voted Wayland because it's more modern and doesn't have startup screen tearing

Famicom
@XOrgFoundation I simply imagine how the program would look like in my head instead of running it.
Leonardo Ferreira Fontenelle

@XOrgFoundation My only problem with Wayland is when I want to share my screen in a videoconference and the app doesn't support it

Schluffiger Schluff

@XOrgFoundation I chose :blobcatshrug: because I use Openbox and tint2, and I'm waiting for a stable version of labwc to arrive in Debian.

david :apartyblobcat:

@XOrgFoundation I should rly switch to wayland at some point
apparently nvidia works ok now
