I present to you - the only time dakimakura was used for it's original purpose in manga

Manga page with boy and girl laying on a futons but dakimakura (body pillow) with anime boy print as barrier in-between them. Originally, dakimakures were used for that purpose and not for hugging printed anime girl or boys merchandise.

Both boy and girl are not sleeping, and boy looks embarrassed and complains in thoughts - "Talk it out beforehand? She is killing me!"
