The #Bluesky suggested follower experience appears to work. I made one single meaningless post right when I created the account, engaged basically with nobody, and I have 49 followers.
What can we learn from that in the #fediverse?

@beckett I didn't say imitate, I said "learn from". It's my experience that the best learnings come from your competitors.

@beckett I do not know. If I had to guess, it would be a social network affinity score which would work in the Fediverse just as well. @eob I didn't pay enough attention to the original onboarding I'm afraid. Right now, it suggests one person to follow because somebody I do follow responded to one of their posts. I think :-) @voron @markigra The #Fediverse needs to find a reliable way to fund itself for certain. A shot in the dark, but you don't happen to have a spare bluesky invite to DM me would ya? Figured i'd ask.

@J12t That's just weird. It means that Bluesky is juicing your numbers. Do you think Mastodon should start automatically signing users up to follow meaningless accounts? Wonder how the the 49 Bluesky accounts that have now been assigned to follow your meaningless account feel about it? @mastodonmigration Not meaningless followers. Many of those followers are people I know.

@J12t Bluesky is new and people are hungry for others to follow? I'm a little confused about why you come to the conclusion that suggested follower experience works. *You* get followed so that means it works? How about on the other side? Have you followed any suggested accounts, and what has the experience been? Were they good suggestions? That would be interesting to hear about too. @cstanhope I have very little experience myself because I haven't really used the app! If I ever do, I will post about it. |
@J12t No need to imitate BlueSky then.
