In case you want to have a better web on your machine: consentomatic.au.dk #Consentomatic is a browser plugin/extension that does all the clicks on these annoying consent popups for you. Not by simply clicking "accept" β€” by doing the opposite. Automated opt-out :)

ez-cookie needs 302 clicks per session. 302. Clicks. Per. Session. That's outright abusive, IMHO, and shows you how they really try everything to make it difficult for you to express "No, thanks. I don't want to be tracked".

@jwildeboer and it’s certainly violating the GDPR…

@jwildeboer pointing this out is the reason I'm installing this on my computers once I get back home!

@jwildeboer Hmm, is that site actually the official one for the extension? I've not seen it before, and it's not referenced from the repo.

@joepie91 It's the official page. It is a subdomain of au.dk, the official website of the Aarhus University. It is also listed as the official homepage on the mozilla add-on page addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firef and the Chrome web store chrome.google.com/webstore/det

@jwildeboer Ah, thanks! I mistakenly identified it as one of those free third-level domain names :)

@jwildeboer Personally, I just decline & block all cookies and popups unless specifically allow-listed.

@jwildeboer I had been thinking about such a plugin for a while, but I don't have time/programming chops to make it myself. Thanks for sharing!

@deach And it's, of course, open source if you want to learn more about the inner workings: github.com/cavi-au/Consent-O-M

@jwildeboer Yeah, quite interesting. I was skimming the paper the authors wrote, apparently only 11.8% of cookies popups they registered met the minimum standards of the GDPR. I really wish the enforcement agencies of the EU would come down more strongly on this. It seems a relative simple fine to write out, especially if you focus on the large cookie popup providers to set a standard for the fines. One can hope πŸ˜’

@jwildeboer @deach I'm stopping all that I'm doing to install this on every device I can.
BIG THANK YOU

@jwildeboer perhaps this extension explains the MSFT trick

Can't click what isn't there:

@jwildeboer
Now we need another plugin that filter ads out but "clicks" on all/xy% the ads and dump whatever they send to /dev/null to keep their ads-clicked kpis up and our browsers clean.

xaph but smaller 🐁

@jwildeboer started using it a few days ago and I'm already up to 310 clicks saved!

@jwildeboer oh cool, wondered how that's different from adblock until I got to the last line lol

@jwildeboer I've started to notice a number of sites showing a message "opting out of cookies due to your browser preference" and dismissing the banner lately after checking that box in #Firefox, both on desktop and mobile.
