@the_ilmfurter @georgetakei Twitter is basically 4chan now. The nutty non-professors have tainted the well. @georgetakei @cameron_d_campbell @georgetakei So I’m missing nothing literally deleting the domain from my LAN’s experience of the internet? Mmm, DNS-RBLs. • *twitter.* Yup, some of these may seem a bit broad. No false positives to date, that I’ve noticed, however. He's not lacking in self-awareness. His poisoning is deliberate and part of the Russia/Trump/GOP game plan to destroy democracy. He's evil and a criminal, as are Trump and many GOP House members. @tomcapuder @georgetakei That's my guess too. In other countries a bit ago fascists were categorically destroying people's means of communication. In an effort to make sure resistance groups couldn't organize. Programs were used and created to circumvent that. And were effective in doing so. But twitter is a way for people to get news/information much faster. If people can't casually band together against oppression....well yeah. Basically. You are very correct. @georgetakei Oh, he sees that as a good result, especially since he got BBC to bend the knee (which is revealing of how the BBC HAS become state media doing the corrupt fascist Tories' bidding). @georgetakei I‘m starting to think that getting rid of all halfway reasonable journalism on the platform is part of the plan. Which is worrying in multiple ways. @PamJo @georgetakei @GreenFire @PamJo @georgetakei or grant them permissions to photos videos email accounts etc...thats just not smart. Some may not have much of a choice. If you depend on social media to spread word about your content as company/creator, and you're not into streaming or videos, then you're basically doomed to go with Zuckerberg, Google, and Elmo in the West for high reach. That's also why many stick with Elmo's site and don't move over to Mastodon for example. They don't have any way to advertise their products/services here. @georgetakei Lets get NPR on here - I'll happily host their accounts and help them build their own instances on their own domain. Just don't know how to reach anyone there ;) Maybe i'll go explore linkedIn heh (wish me luck!) https://mstdn.social/@NPR (edit: says "verified" but hasn't tooted in years). Hopefully they'll be on here somewhere soon Ah, ok. I didn't notice the "verified" was just in the name. It's also only old posts. We'll see. 🤷 @supernovae @georgetakei It's almost inconceivable that reputable firms (especially including media) would give away their work product for free on a platform which doesn't appreciate them, and is sinking into the sewer. NPR and others should absolutely dip their toes into Mastodon - start by setting up an account, including at #universeodon , and then once they're are used to the lay of the land, they have the freedom to establish their own dedicated instance and migrate their accounts to it. @georgetakei Elon will never - Ever - admit any error on his account. Whatever the topic. @georgetakei and yet supposedly diligent people remain, as if somehow there will be redemption @georgetakei Obviously, all these people who left Twitter are wrong and need to realize Elon Musk is actually Jesus. That guy will not change, realize, or improve. Maybe one day he might get disillusioned, but that'll probably just be another episode of all this but worse. Always nice to hear from George Takei. Somehow he didn't get Elon Musk's disease. See how being a good person is possible? @georgetakei @georgetakei But he called himself Harry Ballz or something. So, you know, the Christian right's new anointed one. @georgetakei ?Is there a downside to thinking he doesn't know what he's doing? Our dismissing it as him shooting himself in the foot, or wherever, may keep us from seeing where the gun is actually pointing. @georgetakei I don’t think he lacks self-awareness, he just doesn’t care. I’d even bet he’s thoroughly enjoying himself. I just wish more people would stop propping up his toxic platform. @georgetakei Unless he's doing it on purpose to appease Saudi investors who still can't get over the Arab Spring. @georgetakei Elon is fully aware of what he’s doing at Twitter. He’s just doing the work for the Republican Neo Cons. The Republicans plan is to just break everything because they know it will take decades to fix anything because they will be there “gumming” up any attempt to fix anything. @georgetakei well, a brain drain is happening and soon all the smart people will be over here! @georgetakei Agreed! I wonder if, from his viewpoint, not being toxic is just unacceptable weakness or some such nonsense. I feel that I can see his approach to the world, and reject it, while he cannot and will not see mine. Or ours as his is in the 3-5% minority on the antisocial spectrum.
@georgetakei I am not entirely convinced he is unaware. I don’t know what the endgame is, but I just can’t help thinking he is deliberately tanking Twitter. @georgetakei Elon has no room for anyone who doesn't blindly and loudly worship him. He'll continue driving Twitter into the ground and then try to socialize his loses by demanding a bailout because "the defacto town square" of "free speech" is "too big to fail." @georgetakei I'm afraid things are going exactly as planned over there. He bought Twitter explicitly to destroy it. @georgetakei which is why NASA needs to cancel their contract with SpaceX. With oblivious Musk in charge it's an accident waiting to happen. @georgetakei I think Elons plan all along is to run the Twit site into bankruptcy. Then he will claim a huge capital loss that he can use to reduce or eliminate any income tax. @georgetakei Now that's just cruel, give the guy a break. One doesn't get to be a multi-billionaire titan of industry without possessing a Bio-Level-4 hazmat-suit-level toxic lack of self-awareness of one's actions. @georgetakei now if NPR and PBS would set up their own independent instances on Mastodon it would be 10x the impact. Hopefully soon. Mastodon isn't just "social" media (too often anti-social media elsewhere) it is people's media. They should be present. @georgetakei people should just quit hanging onto that platform and leave and deactivate already. @georgetakei How does that prayer go? Lord, please grant me the confidence of a mediocre white man 😏 @georgetakei Here I am now freshly signed up because of it all! Glad I never got super heavy into Twitter, but, wow this social media landscape is getting to be too much nowadays. @georgetakei I'm still waiting for him to replace himself after offering to step down after he lost the poll that he himself started. @georgetakei "he remains toxically lacking in self-awareness of his actions." Or he is very well aware of the effects of his actions, and he making Twitter into the misogynistic, homophobic, racist, xenophobic hellscape that he wants it to be. @georgetakei I think you underestimate his awareness. He knows exactly what he is doing. @georgetakei or alternatively, NPR chose to leave Elon's platform due to mismanagement and/or the platform being run by a jerk Mr. Takei, I just sent my e-mail. How about you? @georgetakei Elon is doing to Twitter what Murdoch did to Myspace. Two foreigners ruining shit for Americans, and the world for that matter. Or, he is being deliberate. Simply creating the largest microblogging platform for right-wing extremists. @georgetakei Except, I think he is doing what he set out to do: destroy Twitter. He's already changed its legal ownership and logo: now it's an "X" owned business and the logo is a Japanese dog. Farewell, Bluebird. And KISS MY ASS, JACK, YOU FUCKER. @georgetakei @georgetakei Now that you're here on Mastodon it feels like back when twitter was fun! Thank you! @georgetakei So what? It's his company and he can do what he wants with it...surely? It's up to those not happy about it to leave. @georgetakei As @fraying says, if you assume that Elon wants Twitter to die, then everything he does makes sense. @georgetakei Perhaps this will finally usher in a tsunami wave of companies to abandon Twatter. One can only hope. @georgetakei I think Elon is quite self aware. He simply does not care what anyone else thinks. @georgetakei Borrowing anti-fascist language (protecting his users from “state-affiliated media”), Musk’s handlers are steadily ensuring Twitter is rendered useless as a global tool of dissent. @georgetakei National Public Radio doesn't include white nationalist talking points in its “editorial coverage” so they have labeled it "state-affiliated" media. @georgetakei He poisons everything he touches, pure Evil reincarnated. @georgetakei Then there's the people who say "This is part of this plan - to chase away legit news!" I don't think it was part of his plan - just his excuse. @georgetakei |
@georgetakei Omg... 😐
