North Dakota politicians just raised their meal reimbursement to $45 after rejecting a bill for free school lunches, which costs only $3 per meal. That means, for the price of one politician's lunch, you could feed 15 low-income kids — socialism for me, but not for thee.

@Miriamm Special place in hell for these psychos.

@Miriamm @cwnidog not only do the taxpayers pay their salaries, but they also get free meals once they claim them for reimbursements.

@Miriamm this is who we’re fighting--glad to know they’re not even hiding anymore.

@Miriamm

That's not socialism.... that's entitlement.

Have you eaten a $3.00 school lunch? Would you do that 5 days a week? You compromise your goal by setting the bar so low. Pizza or mac & cheese every day should not be the goal. A balanced, nutricious meal for every child, in school, every day is the goal, regardless of their ability to pay!
That is the right thing to do. Even if it appears to some to be a waste of money.

Not sure how to fit this in, but the phrase: "Kill the fatted calf" just jumped into my mind. Or maybe the "fat cats"?

To be clear, I don't want to kill anybody, although some of those pols' heads mounted on the walls might offer a lesson to the ones still passing laws.

I can get more than enough lunch in Portland Maine for $10-15. What in tarnation are the North Dakota politicians gobbling while the little kids starve?

You should emphasise that the talk is of 13 Republican senators. The Republicans always warn that Democrats would introduce communism.

Darwin Woodka

@Miriamm for the GOP it is always about the grift. And they don't give a shit about kids.

Googly Eyed Peas

@Miriamm is it time for Anonymous to air some dirty laundry? I’m sure most of these fucks have some very sketchy history.

@Miriamm @FrankFrank@newsie.
We should refer to things like that as Republicisms. If it benefits them and hurts others, it’s a Republicanism.

@Miriamm I'll go you one better. In Alaska, the legislature is poised to get a 67% raise increase on top of the $300 per day per diem while they are in session. Meanwhile, the SNAP backlog here is months behind, people are literally starving, foodbanks are out of food, grocers in small areas are out of food and people are being hospitalized for malnutrition. Also, there is a huge shortage of childcare...tough, says the legislature and governor. Increase to public funding of public education...nope, we are broke. But, we have the billions to give to oil companies while they drill the next site in the National Petroleum Reserve and destroy stuff. Oh, and I could go on. I hate red states, but we aren't TN is the best I can say. I am so sorry shit is happening in ND, too.

You can’t make this stuff up.
You also can’t ignore it.

@Miriamm a $45 lunch?! What are they getting a trough of food? They really are pigs aren't they?

Black Cat Ranch

@AgreeableLandscape @Miriamm even here in the bay area, sandwiches are going to cost $15-$20 and I’d be surprised if North Dakota is more expensive than Oakland or San Francisco

DELETED

@blackcatranch @Miriamm Well maybe if we limited their food spending to what the average family can afford they'd actually give a shit about inflation and food companies' price gouging.

DELETED

@Miriamm That’s brazen. Too bad so few in ND will even learn about this or make the obvious mental leap to understand the hypocrisy of it.
