"Covid testing is being scaled back even further in England from April.

It is part of the "living with Covid" approach that relies on vaccines to keep people safe."

If you're going to pursue a vaccine-only approach you need to offer people the vaccines.

@kityates I genuinely don't understand why, even if it's not available on the NHS for everyone, it's not even available on the same 'free on the NHS for those at high risk, everyone else can get it privately at a pharmacy' basis as flu jabs.

@Eat_Read_Knit @kityates

Yes, this. I would have thought this would be a fantastically profitable move.

@kityates is there a waste water surveillance program in the uk? That’s pretty much the only thing remote useful to get an impression of the situation here in Germany…

haq

@philippsteinkrueger @kityates There are a group of professional actuaries who have been reliably tracking hospital admissions and provide weekly detailed stats, although as an indicator admissions are probably about 2 weeks behind the actual situation in communities. (Sorry for the offsite link.)

@kityates The vaccine programme seems to have ended too. There's no news about further campaigns. Some of us had the 2-in-1 booster. I did. But many didn't. My wife had the single. We're both >60 and work in schools. Our daughter works for the NHS and is in schools and clinics daily. Will we get a top up? Nothing has been said.

@TerryBernstein @kityates

I missed the "autumn booster" but I am in several distinct groups that qualify, under the published rules, for the bivalent "spring booster" that was being promised.

I feel unable to trust the English politicians with my health. They don't keep their promises.

@kityates "Living with COVID" = If you get sick and die or have long-term debilitating side effects, LOL OH WELL SUCKS TO BE YOU. At least Joe Six-Pack can drink at fucking bars or go to concerts without having to think about how his choices affect his high-risk neighbors or family members.

@kityates there's more vaccines for certain at risk groups in Scotland. As a recovering Long COVID sufferer, I'm surprised not to be getting one

GreySkies

@kityates

But they DO offer boosters to the general population: They're called "infections" now.

Wish i was joking :(

@kityates And the vaccines have to actually keep people safe, not just from severe illness & death, but also #longCOVID & #cardiovascular complications. #CovidIsNotOver #N95Maskswork
