Some cancelled their support of what i do due to “Mastodon rants” 💀

Not going to apologise for existing as a human being, who has thoughts and doesn’t like the gatekeeping on Mastodon that some people keep showing.

However it does repeatedly tell me that perhaps Mastodon isn’t worth so much of my time because of all the hate and arguments thrown at me. Will be thinking on this.

@gamingonlinux you’ll run into this sort of thing everywhere. There are always going to be a set of people who don’t appreciate every aspect of your content, and that’s ok

@gamingonlinux If "mastodon rants" are enough to turn someone off, they weren't worth keeping to begin with. You are right to be annoyed and upset with mastodon gatekeepers. They just need to shutup and let people use this service in a manner that suits the individual using the service.

*This is not a request for support and pledging at the start of a month is better, otherwise you get double charged on Patreon as mine takes payments at the start of every month.

@gamingonlinux There's a very simple tool to manage hateful and toxic comments. Block. Blocking toxic people makes life better 😊

@gamingonlinux Lol.
Unfortunately as a public person on the Internets you will be faced with all kinds of people, which will complain about various things. Social media and mastodon are here for communication and venting is one of those forms. If not for mastodon, I would not know, you existed and produced quality content. Limiting your interaction with the network only to professional posts might make you look 'better' in some eyes, but i think, that just makes your account a bot that links to your content produced elsewhere. Most people like seeing the human side of the content creators and that is what that person is complaining about. On the other hand if the pressure of interactions is weighting heavily on your mental health. Then obviously consider taking a step back from social media.

@gamingonlinux
What assholes. I'd personally hate it if some random jerks pushed you off here, especially since I've started moving away from basically every other major social media platform out there. I guess I'll still have Discord and RSS feeds if you really decide to go, but it would be one less significant presence on Mastodon 😢

@gamingonlinux Lmao, what? Do these people not know what an unfollow button is?

Nico

@gamingonlinux
It'd be sad to see you leave this platform, I love reading your toots ^^

@gamingonlinux
Screw 'em. The whole point of Mastodon is that you choose who you follow and block/mute those you don't care for. No algorithms. If they are going out of their way to complain/harass, then they're just assholes.

@gamingonlinux That kind of noise is always going to happen; people are going to 'vote with their wallets', as they should. But don't forget plenty of us are sticking around just fine.

I do find it all kind of funny in the context of a dominant proprietary storefront (Steam) and proprietary games and proprietary hardware to run them on... Like, I'd love a libre hardware RISC-V system to run FLOSS games on as much as the next enthusiast, but that's not what GoL is about.

@gamingonlinux lol, yeah, unfortunately, there seems to be more and more "open source veganism" going on, where, instead of making cool stuff, people tell other people that they are bad people for not being purist enough.

Don't listen to the haters, and do what you feel like.

Internet Rando

@gamingonlinux damn. This is my favorite way to follow your coverage besides the RSS feed.

I, for one, appreciate your presence here.

@gamingonlinux I think where your use pattern breaks down is the combination of personal and business/project content. It's fine to post personal stuff on your mastodon account. It's fine to have a mastodon account for your business or project. But using one account for both is inconvenient for anyone seeking either but not both sorts of content from you.

Javier Heredia

@gamingonlinux Fuck the gatekeepers. Keep doing what you do. Plenty of us here support and like you.

Sascha König

@gamingonlinux don't listen to comments like this. There will always be people who do not like what other people do or say. Don't be discouraged by negative feedback.
