@gamingonlinux maybe that's more related to the "Linux Gaming !!!" crowd than something that can be generalized to Mastodon? 🫣 I've had almost exclusively positive interactions with people on Mastodon, even when talking about complicated or "controversial" Linux / programming / gaming-related topics

Actually, it reminds me a lot of the open source license philosophy discussions (GPL vs BSD/MIT)

@gamingonlinux The FOSS mentality getting worse n worse. Gatekeeping is what they do best... They don't care. Honestly that's why sometimes I ask myself what the heck am I doing here... Maintaining a Distro n getting flack for every decision I make. It's getting poisonous... Hate is growing. Everyone hates on everything... Rarely do I see positivity nowadays. It's always why this not that? Getting sick of it tbh.

@gamingonlinux Hey, reading the messages you posted those last days, it seems you're struggling with some people that keep complaining on your work. So I want to support you ! I don't mind you posting links to other platforms (I'll click on some, won't on others), but I can't emphasize how much I appreciate your work and how much I think it helps the community. (and the silent crowd that follows you also probably think the same).

@gamingonlinux I can see where the disconnect is here even if you don't want to. They want to welcome others here, to MASTODON and you're trying to send them to INSTAGRAM, it's an easy mistake but a lot of people on here are trying to avoid MSM. But almost seems like you're instigating the problem, first reintroducing MSM, then suggesting people interact with you there, and acting a victim. Not really the kind of thing I'd like to see, feel free to block me if you're doing it intentionally

@gamingonlinux There's a big difference from watching Twitter turn into basically a fascist mouthpiece and Facebook/Instagram/Meta just being... The standard flavour of corporate evil, IMO.

And yeah - if you want people to be *aware* of better ways, you meet them where they're at first. Go do what you need to on Instagram, and we can happily scroll past and ignore it since we're already here.

Very *very* few people get to use FOSS as their first platform.
