people will happily learn how to use discord bots and cs:go commands and minecraft plugins but will scoff at the idea of using a command lin e for anything

@nano i've been using the source developer console ever since i was a child, and all that knowledge gets transferred over to using the linux command line, IT'S NOT THAT HARD

@nano i'd like to think it's because people are worried about breaking their system but most people on windows will gladly change random registry entries or group policies bc an online guide told them too

maybe people just assume command line = advanced users only = scary?

@kal @nano You have to memorize tons of arcane options to use the commandline tool for no good reason. Completely frustrating.

You can play minecraft without plugins and use discord without talking to it through a bot every time.

Commandline is binary. You have to use it for every single thing, or not at all.

Sometimes a completely separate and completely different alternative exists for the commandline tool, sometimes not at all.

@nano i blame my eventual learning to code on messing around with command blocks too much as a wee lad

@nano bash and cli tools syntax are a lot easier to understand and consistent to use than most of bots I see in chat software

There is no things like "this time it does just invoce with command but with others it needs bot keyword" in command line

@nano the difference is that all those enable you to significantly change the behavior of the thing youre already engaging with. Command line in the case youre talking about is just a different way of presenting something that people already do.

Therefore there exists little incentive to start using it if not already familiar

@nano It's scary, I'm just a level designer/artist, not a programmer... syntax hard for tiny brain...
