What you see on the #Fediverse really depends on what software you're using. Compare the following screenshots of the same blog post published with the ActivityPub protocol.

In the first, the post is ...sort of rendered in mostly-vanilla #Mastodon. The title (in plain text) of the blog post is followed by a link to the blog post (which my installation renders with a card preview). That's it.

In the second, which is a lightly modified #Hometown installation, the full blog post is rendered in full, with embedded images and formatting conserved.

Link to the post (which you'll have to copy-paste into your search bar most likely): blog.millefeuilles.cloud/maj-d — what does it look like in your feed?

From the Mille feuilles blog, @gersande@blog.millefeuilles.cloud, the screenshot of the post as seen in almost-vanilla Mastodon only shares the title of the post ("mÀj de Mille feuilles à la version 0.5.5 de Bookwyrm") followed by a link to the post.
In this second screenshot, the very same blog post from @gersande@blog.millefeuilles.cloud is rendered in full in the interface of a slightly remixed Hometown installation. It not only includes the title, but the text of the post (which is mostly in French) as well as the links, formatted headers, and embedded images.

@maegul I do not actually know what a Lemmy post is!

Darius Kazemi

@gersande I always love to see this stuff actually work!!!

maegul

@darius @gersande maybe I can bother you @darius instead of @gersande (if you don’t mind!) … do you know how well hometown would render #lemmy posts?

If you’re not sure or familiar, I think the main issue with Lemmy posts is that they pass links etc as attachments, which mastodon by default ignores.

Darius Kazemi

@maegul I don't know - can you point me to an example Lemmy account I could inspect?

maegul

@darius

lemmy.ml/c/fediverse … is a “community” like a subreddit. Should be able to follow just fine like any other user. It should just like a group.

Thanks!

Darius Kazemi

@maegul individual posts look like this in Hometown

maegul

@darius thanks!

For the record, it seems to have the same issue as mastodon: attachments like links and images are stripped.

@gersande@silvan.cloud @gersande@blog.millefeuilles.cloud that search link didn’t work on Octodon (Glitch-soc), needed this in the search box blog.millefeuilles.cloud/maj-d (and on Glitch-soc, it looked like the first photo 😕)

Gersande La Flèche

@22 Thank you!!! Updated the link. Super interesting about glitch-soc. I am considering opening a festure request on the mastodon github (though I imagine it exists already!) Might be worth doing the same for glitch-soc!
