i'm coining the term "attention gauntlets" to explain why my email inbox and similar digital environments are so unmanageable for me.

a big part of why i use actual physical bound paper to manage my life tasks is that no app designer can decide it's profitable to turn it into an attention gauntlet @chrisamaphone a combination of physical paper and an open-source local-only digital notes system, yes, for the same reasons @left_adjoint @chrisamaphone plain text + search (grep, ag, whatever) is surprisingly effective @chrisamaphone also so much easier and satisfying to literally burn to the ground should the need arise @chrisamaphone my migraine tracking app just added ads and they're about to lose out to a wall calendar |
relatedly: i feel like people who can ignore the little badges with a number on them (that look like they're saying "you have this many notifications", whether or not they are lies) have actual magic powers. it feels like a law of physics that i click on those if i see them. there's no conscious choice involved.
