French unions called for a general strike today.

And the people responded. Over 200 demos were held in the country, with upwards of 3.5 million on strike across the country.

In Paris alone unions estimate that 800,000 people turned out.

In Lyon, tens of thousands flooded the streets to protest Macron's plan to raise the retirement age to 64.

Meanwhile in the U.S. 156 conservative members of Congress released a proposal last year to raise the retirement age to 70.

Marseille also saw tens of thousands join the general strike, as anger at the President's plan seems to grow rather than subside.

In Toulouse people also joined by the thousands.
