@ipg ok, who ran a redline stealer this time

Emma (IPG)

502 videos now, they're making everything unlisted

Screenshot of the Linus Tech Tips YouTube channel named Tesla, showing only 502 videos, last videos that show are from 10 months ago (but this changes every refresh)
Emma (IPG)

within 13 minutes, now down to just 13 videos

Tesla/LTT channel showing very few videos
Emma (IPG)

the bitcoin scam streams are now set to private

Emma (IPG)

they're trying to take back the channel it looks like?

channel now has old LTT logo, still old videos with scam bitcoin livestreams

the fact that YouTube hasn't had anyone step in (except to change channel metadata, which the "hackers" have played into with their new stream titles) and the streams are still ongoing shows that their response times for account compromise are terrible

they could have just not allowed a huge verified channel to be able to have their username/display name changed so freely, they could have caught out "Tesla" as a name commonly used in scams, they could have someone at Google's moderation team who can freeze the channel's activity (considering a channel with a recent strike can't stream at all, this should be *trivial*)

@ipg Google needs to get serious about protecting their 2FA

@ipg Ah, Elon Musk, that famous pillar of wise judgement!

@ipg 1. YouTube support is kinda useless for a multi billion dollar company, this is not the first time this hack happened, and it's not even a different video

2. Yeap, Elon Musk and Jack Dorsey, the faces of crypto scams.

t3rminus

@ipg looks like the hackers deleted all the videos too. The only ones I see on the channel are 7 years old.

DELETED

Guess someone needed a tech tip on how not to get hacked
That's gotta be quite a blow to the business

@ipg@wetdry.world one of news orgs from the Philippines got their YouTube channel hacked last morning

Alice
@ipg they back online and reuploading all the 10+ years of content at once :aiwow:

@ipg It's ridiculous how often this scam happens. YouTube makes too much money to care though, it doesn't affect their revenue at all so they're not concerned with enforcing their terms of service or protecting users.

Shokunin

@ipg the mods YouTube employs run these scams. That’s how they get fiddle with permissions to take over channels that did have good security.

Aral Balkan

@ipg Looks like Google have handled it in their own special way.

This account has been terminated for violating YouTube's Community Guidelines.

@aral
Getting hacked is against community guidelines? Seems quite harsh... πŸ˜†

*Checks date* oh, it's not April 1st. Ooops...

DELETED

@ipg I noticed this earlier! The hackers unlisted/unprivated a lot of videos before completely nuking the channel, which was incredibly odd. Only have this one screen shot.

A screenshot of the Videos tab of the Linus Tech Tips channel showings tons of videos from around 2013 that were never made public for one reason or another.
