why is it that audio software all looks like this

The screen shot of "Pure Data" the program's wikipedia page. It is a sea of incomprehensible widgets that I can never hope to comprehend.

@aeva I mean that would be one thing but it's not just that, it's that audio software looks like this and then all the plugins go "let me draw you an artfully distressed 4k image of a 60s synth and make you sweep your mouse in a 60-degree clockwise arc to switch between one of 4 possible settings"
