Наткнулась на свои заметки с цитатами, больше всего их оказалось из романа Алексиса Холла о конкурсе выпечки на британском ТВ (должно быть похоже на The Great British Bake-Off, но я не смотрела ни одного выпуска).

Книга:
Paris Daillencourt Is About to Crumble
Автор: Alexis Hall
Описание: quicunquevult.com/book/paris-d
_____________
Paris tried to glare back, but he didn’t have a face for glaring. He suspected he probably looked like a mildly upset sheep.

He was getting that same I-hope-they’ll-like-me-they-won’t-like-me-will-they feeling that had crept up on him every time he’d been introduced to a new social situation.

Paris gave him a slightly wide-eyed look. “I’m a temptation?”
“Honey, now you’re just fishing.”
“I’m not fishing. As we’ve established, I’ve got genuinely terrible self-esteem.”
“That’s still fishing. You just don’t expect to catch anything.”

“I just wish I could be half as ... everything as you are.”
“Honey, I wish I was half as everything as you think I am.”

There was something about washing up he found grounding. You knew what was expected of you, you knew what success looked like, and you knew when you’d finished. When most things in life offered one of those three at best.

That would involve using his phone as an actual phone, which Paris honestly thought everyone had stopped doing sometime in 2015 even if they didn’t have a crippling fear of speaking to people they couldn’t see. Or, for that matter, people they could.
