@yogthos what's your take on the possibility of nead future nuclear exchange? between say, Russia and NATO, China and NATO, you name it.

@santiago I think the chances of an intentional exchange are low, but as tensions keep escalating the opportunity for a world ending mistake grows significantly.

There were plenty of cases during the cold war when decisions made by a single individual averted a nuclear holocaust. We might not be that lucky going forward.

@yogthos Do you think there is more awareness of nuclear consequences, than 30 or 40 years ago when the anti-nuk movement was on the rise? The US is signing off every arms control treaty, the last one expires in 2026 i think. Scott Ritter says this scenario would escalate in an arms race again. I say maybe there is no human then, to prevent the nuclear war, but an AI that will trigger the first deploy. Very scary.

@santiago I'd argue there is less awareness today. I've seen completely unhinged articles in western media downplaying the horrors of a nuclear war and trying to argue that one would be winnable.

I think that the public has very little conception what a nuclear exchange would actually mean, and we're seeing increasingly ideological positions being taken by politicians and the media.

Ritter is completely right, what little protections there were have now been dismantled.
