@marcan FWIW I wholeheartedly support you; and I may very well have been one of those people driven away from contributing due to this.

Kernels and C programming are areas I have solid expertise in but the arcane process of the Linux kernel always made me rather wary to try to help out, so I never tried and never found out if it is really that bad.
