@kate I've recently had similar thoughts to define the colors for my linux terminal.

I went for constant luminance, though. With two different brightness levels and trying to maximize apparent hue differences (too many blues and greens).

Going with smoothly changing luminance is a nice idea, though probably not quite applicable for my use case...
