@jaredwhite I haven't come here to argue, but if memory serves me well it was Apple who invented Podcasts when they started selling iPods, so techically… And I suspect it was a business decission to build RSS reader into iTunes, so costs of content hosting could be externalized.

And as much as I like open stuff, I'd kind of understand those walled gardens if they enabled authors to monetize their work. I think about these platforms like cable TVs.

@steelman Podcasting most definitely predates Apple. They added support for the technology, but they most certainly did not invent it. Obviously the iPod as a product played a role as inspiration, but that's where the connection ends. internationalpodcastday.com/po

@jaredwhite Thank you. I didn't own any MP3 player back then and wasn't aware of the early developments.

BTW. Isn't there in English any better term than “audio show”? We've got at least two in Polish. I mean, shouldn't a “show” be something you can see?
