@darius @danhon Yes indeed. I concur 100% with you on that, with one exception - there is no such thing as a mastodon network.

To call it #ActivityPub or #Fediverse is an accurate statement, but mastodon is nothing more than one of but many ActivityPub powered platforms in the Fediverse.

Were all mastodon servers merely networking via whitelist and accepting federation exclusively with other mastodon servers or if it by default only communicated with other mastodon servers, then you could make that case; by default, it openly federates and is therefore no different than any #Friendica, #Hometown, #Pixelfed, #Pleroma, or #Misskey server or forked variant of those and many more.

A "not so subtle distinction" that clarifies misconceptions by most #newcomers of the #twittermigration variety and even a lot of folks that are unaware the many contacts they interact and share with everyday are not mastodon accounts - it's not good to normalize the concept of ActivityPub networking and #federation in the Fediverse that way, and many journalists have had to issue erratas to clarify what has been misconstrued by their readers already.

I hope that helps! 🙂
