@nixCraft I voted "I don't use Linux distro" because I hate this pronunciation and gate-keeping bull-shittery. Linux has an actively bad community who push new people away by constantly nagging them when they type something "incorrectly". It's toxic.

🤔 Interesting, I've never observed anything like this on myself, even when I started with Linux.

@popey @nixCraft some people are very pedantic when it comes to describing Linux. It's only in the last five years I've got back into it and self taught. You either get the aggressive ones or the comedians that recommend RM * -rf and the like.....

@nixCraft Allow me to interject for a moment, what you are refering as "Linux" is actually Systemd/Linux

@nixCraft
I say: Linux
Write: GNU/Linux
Care: No, because the last thing I think we need is more cultural division.

Whatever you wanna call it, let's make great things together ✌️

Atomic Birdseed

@jc @nixCraft I say: "Linux", I write 'Linux", but it's GNU/Linux, and no-one really cares.

Hacker Memes

@nixCraft it's ironic that :stallman: was so against patents yet insisted that the entire linux project prefixed with his GNU/ 'trademark' just cause he wrote some of the user mode apps.

@nixCraft Have a glass half full for thinking this will settle the question once and for all! 🥃

@nixCraft It's Linux for me.
But usually I google for ubuntu+"the problem I have" because Ubuntu has the biggest userbase and so I usually find the solution for my problems.

Oh and I think Linux "hardliners" are bad for the community.

@nixCraft I've recently taken to calling it GNU plus Linux

@nixCraft Interesting article about this topic: "The limited utility of the phrase GNU/Linux" seirdy.one/posts/2022/12/09/li

@nixCraft just "linux", if only to upset Stallman and his troll-army, frankly

@nixCraft Strictly speaking, it's GNU/Linux, but it's not important. Other major OSes that use the Linux kernel such as Android and Chrome OS don't even have 'Linux' in their names, so the scope for confusion by omitting the GNU part in the name is small.

@nixCraft
I see this as depending on need specificity. Linux in casual conversation, but GNU/Linux when needing to differentiate with a non-GNU distro. I do think it is formally and properly GNU/Linux but then I don't usually speak formally and properly!
