@libreleah So many people get hostile about it, but software liberty is also the freedom to use any software you want, proprietary or otherwise.

Being hostile towards people who use anything but Libre software is a good way to make sure less people use Libre software.

@LibreNyaa I prefer to be constructive. The reason people use libre software is because it's better, and they are in control of it.

If someone says they want to move away from it, there are basically two responses possible:

* Be personally offended

* Wonder why, and try to do better

I chose the latter; read my follow-up post. I'm curious to know what problem that person has, so that I can improve Libreboot for them.

@libreleah I think that's the best way myself, I'm used to seeing in discussions where some developers will get offended like you said and get defensive instead of trying to get input to improve.

Being constructive is much better than trying to convince the user that the design is right and that their needs are wrong.

Edit: Not saying the design is wrong, just using it as an example from a conversation I saw before*

Huge respect for replying how you did in the post

@LibreNyaa
I would not say it is promoting #libreSoftware ideals to help someone lock themselves into a proprietary solution. If people need help with a proprietary system let the #ProprietarySoftware company help them. It's what they are paid to do. So while it is noble to always offer help, helping people implement poor choices is questionable. At #OSArch there are many experts in the use of proprietary #CAD & #BIM software. We spend our time helping people get away from that.

@duncan_lithgow I agree, I worded that a bit differently than I intended to.

I was meaning for people getting hostile towards someone moving to a proprietary software, when the Libre software equivalent doesn't currently meet their needs, instead of discussing how it could meet their needs better and getting input from them.
